If I were to become deaf
And warned before the fact.
It would be like death,
So, the penultimate act
If left to my choice
Would be to hear music and resounding chords
Which would fracture my tympani-
Drive my cochlea to heaven.
As each neuron popped in sequence,
I'll go mad with ecstasy,
My hot brain turning to jelly.
I understand:
Peter, poor Peter:
Would you be as beautiful today
Without the agony
of the painful scream of ecstatic music
