Influenza (a minor ilness)

living for a moment with the ineffable

days erased with fever

fatigue so wracking

a question almost mute

between either

a life forever lacking

the simplest truth

the vanity of hope

alive on the slippery slope

between now and forever

hangs upon a spindled tether

our fantasies lost

can still be learned at cost

that, now, in this simple second

is all that can be reckoned

else, she is there, I am forever beckoned.
