Innocence

By jamesaguiar - Posted on 21 March 2018

When pain
like rain
soaks to the bone
the fear that is honed
by the starvation
deprivation
of a soul
lost
never again whole
but at what cost
never again
waiting, staying
then
like after the finality
praying
weighing whether
the brutality
should bind like a tether
the yearing to be free
of times lost
all memories suddenly tossed
in the refuse
voluntarily refused

let it go
no more
of what can never be
yes, at last free
to be as I must
without trust
one last plunge
to expunge
all that never was really
like a serpent pealing
the essence
transgresses
to a whole world
new
made for the innocent few
so declared
because they dared.
