You are heretomorrow

the day that grief is buried and life resumes again,
is a day that i hunger for,
i stand uncertain, wary, unsure
and resolution lies beyond the door.
a man half-alive i move by rote,
not in despair, yet devoid of hope.
if there is no bliss in any of this,
one fact is all but certain.
that simply surviving from day to day,
before the final curtain,
is ultimately the only way,
that a man can carry his burden.
anything more or anything less
denies the truth and belies the test
and fools us to think we're unlike the rest.
