Performance- Post Rehearsal

He lays there. quiet-
Two medics in a whirl with dials and levers
to delay the inhospitable,
Calm, Serene,
Through a stethoscope
Reposed without hope-
I grope his face with my eyes.
With slight surprise.
A medic, me, he returns my gaze-
On his face a hinted smile-
I watch all the while-
He rolls his eyes to mock the docs
As they jiggle dials
For his last mile-
Old world war II guy
He is
Amused by this.
His skin turns cyanin.
His eyes dim,
But for the wink
At the brink
Of his life
While yet alive-
We are bound together-
His eyes ask whether
When my name
is in the penultimate frame,
I'll do the same.
He takes his leave-
Silent. I grieve.
